What is the Cub Scouts?

First and foremost... Cub Scouting is fun!

No matter what grade you are in, first through fifth, Cub Scouts is a blast (for parents too). Do you like to learn by doing? Then Pack 43 is the place. You will learn to tie knots, set up a tent, shoot a bow and arrow (archery). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? You may even learn how to build your own campfire. Sent a secret code to a buddy? Built a catapult? Played Ultimate? Hiked? How about built your own Pine Wood Derby car then raced it? Earn rewards for doing these things... and many more in Pack 43.

Since its beginning, the Cub Scout program has been a fun and educational experience concerned with values. Besides providing a positive place where boys and girls can enjoy safe, wholesome activities, Cub Scouting focuses on building character, improving physical fitness, teaching practical skills, and developing a spirit of community service.

Cub Scouts Belong to Packs and Dens

As a Cub Scout, you will be part of the pack which is divided into smaller groups called dens. Each den has about six to ten boys and girls. All of the Cub Scouts in your den are in the same grade and may even go to the same school.

The Cub Scout pack belongs to a church, a school, or some other group of people in your community or neighborhood. This group makes sure your pack has good adult leaders, a place to meet, and exciting things to do.  The group gets help from the Boy Scouts of America, which is part of Scouting around the world.

Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places

Have you ever talked to the policemen on duty? Or been part of a parade? How about visited the local TV station and sat in the news anchor's chair? These are some of the activities Pack 43 did just in the past few months.

We also built Pinewood Derby cars and raced them. You may build a sailboat or trimaran and race it in the Rain Gutter Regatta, or build a "spaceship" and race it to the stars in the Pack Water Rocket derby.  You will help your pack family keep the coast clean in Phillippe Park, and help others around our community who need assistance.  Most importantly, as a Scout, you will learn, grow, and have fun doing it.

Cub Scouts Earn Awards

Each time you complete an accomplishment or learn a new skill, you will be rewarded. Sometimes the reward is a bead or a patch; sometimes it's a "belt-loop" and/or a pin; and sometimes it is a smile on your parents' faces.  We love to see you grow and learn, and if you "Do Your Best" one day you could earn the Arrow of Light, the highest award a Cub Scout could earn.  The badges are focused on four main categories: Academics, Physical Fitness, Technology, and Community Service.   .
